Advanced Furniture Finishing Workshop
Ready to move beyond a basic painted finish?
In this live, start-to-finish workshop, I’ll take one prepared piece of furniture from base coat to completed finish while explaining the techniques, tools, and decisions I’m making along the way.
The piece will be prepped and base-coated before the workshop begins so we can spend our time on the creative part: layering color, building depth, creating visual texture, correcting what isn’t working, and bringing the finish together with wax.
Who are these workshops for?
This workshop is designed for anyone who already understands the basics of furniture painting and wants to explore more advanced finishes.
Previous furniture painting experience is recommended. Start Small, Leave Confident or similar experience is ideal.
What to Expect at a Creative Workshop
You’ll watch the entire finish develop in real time and learn how I approach:
-
Layering and blending color
-
Creating visual texture without heavy physical texture
-
Working with tools such as a brayer
-
Building depth and movement in a finish
-
Knowing when to add more and when to stop
-
Correcting areas that don’t go as planned
-
Finishing and protecting the piece with wax
You’ll be encouraged to ask questions throughout the workshop, get up close to the process, and have opportunities to try selected techniques yourself.
What Will You Take Away?
The goal isn’t to memorize one exact finish. It’s to understand how a layered finish is built and how to begin making those creative decisions in your own work.
Advanced furniture painting involves technique, but it also takes practice, experimentation, and learning to trust your eye. This workshop gives you a close-up look at that process.
Think Beyond Furniture
These techniques don’t have to stop with tables and dressers.
Old doors, shelves, frames, architectural pieces, decorative panels, and other found objects can all become surfaces for creative painted finishes. The techniques you learn here can travel into all kinds of future projects.
No furniture or supplies are needed. Just come ready to watch, ask questions, experiment, and learn.
